Keep Going 𧑠π
Not everyone is a die-hard sports fan, but most can say that athletics has impacted their lives in one way. Whether it was a family member who participated in some form of organized sport, a friend who was a die-hard fan who may have come off as annoying (itβs been me, this New Yorker), you have been around parts of this athletic world.
As a lifelong athlete & coach, I have been fortunate enough to experience some of the biggest highs of my life, along with some deep, heartbreaking moments through sports. Breaking records in the pool, Hall of Fame inductions, first-team selections, and finishing an Ironman race are memorable highs. Heartbreaks are seeing your team get disqualified earlier than anticipated, losing a national championship as a college athlete, or not being picked for a team you thought was your dream.
All of these experiences have led me to where I am, and I am still a work in progress. Which brings me to this year's Knicks Playoff run; Iβll spare the details of my nails painted Knicks colors, my superstitions game day attire, the relentless texting I would do with close people about the game; instead, I will focus on how I was reminded of how much all of this can teach us about every part of life. The Knicks showcased the perfect example of ignoring the doubters and relentlessly believing in yourself and your people (teammates). You could not help but cheer for this team. Captain Jalen Brunson, who was doubted throughout his career, proved to himself and all who watched that he can achieve what he wants: an NBA Championship. He believed in himself and his team, no matter what, even if you are down 29 points at half. There is so much more to say about all of these incredible athletes and their stories; I recommend learning more if you are a fan of a good comeback.
What to learn from this Knicks run is that anything is possible, but you have to believe it. Believe that for yourself and for others; there is no better feeling than knowing that someone or a team believes in you. Keep shooting after you miss; you will start hitting them. Keep going. 𧑠π
